Watching Out For Scams

September 1 2017, 06:15am

Winning an iPad can be exciting, but it is important that you take your time and find a competition that is legitimate. You would not want to get your hopes up, give out your personal information, and then find out that it is a scam. Here are some ways to avoid a scam when winning an iPad.

Check for Catches

There are many companies that claim to offer free iPads. Read through all of the fine print on the website you are on before offering over your personal information. Make sure that all of the rules and information you are given seems to be legitimate. There are many companies that claim to offer a free iPad and instead take your information to sign you up for offers, many of which cost you money.

Read the Policy on Privacy

You should never hand over personal information without making sure that your privacy is going to be protected. All websites will tell you how your information is going to be used so read through this ahead of time.

Watch for Hype

The more hype that is around a website or offer the more likely that it is fake. This is because a lot of scams work to get people so excited about the offer that these participants will not take too much time to look through the privacy policy or other information that is there. Be wary of blinking graphic and other promises that seem too good to be true.

Be Careful about Ads

Not only are legitimate companies using advertising, so are the scams. Just because something is advertised does not mean that it is going to be something you should get in to. Look carefully through any ad that you see and make sure that it looks like something that can be legitimate. Not all of them are going to actually offer you the iPad when they just want to steal your information or sign you up for things that cost money.

You Can’t Win if You Don’t Enter

It is common for an iPad winning scam to send you information saying that you have already won an iPad. These will be from competitions you have never even heard of. This means that it is a scam. You are not able to win a contest or sweepstake if you have never even entered it. If you get this kind of email, you should make sure to not give up any information or it could be used against you.
